From Wayne Parks Ministries website :
Wayne Parks, son of Rev. Al Parks, was born in Roanoke, Virginia. He grew up under the training of a classic Pentecostal background, and was taught the ways of God from a young child. He was born again at a young age.
As a teenager, he began going with his father in evangelistic ministry. In his mid-teens, Wayne Parks began his own ministry. Eventually, he came under the mentoring of anointed revivalist and tent evangelist A. A. Allen.
Throughout his twenties he maintained a traveling itinerary of tent revivals, ministering healing, miracles, and hard hitting preaching to multitudes over the years, with tremendous success by the power of the Holy Ghost.
In 1979, at 31 years of age, under the specific direction of the Holy Ghost, Wayne Parks moved his ministry headquarters to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and opened Full Gospel Church of the Living God; and continues the pastoral work there.

21486 ~ Way She Smiles

Recorded at R.S.S. Inc. [Richmond Sound Stages]
Produced by C. & B.
1968
"Recorded early in 1968 at Richmond Sound Stages. The songs are on two different volumes of Aliens Psychos & Wild Things. Remember really is a bleak retrospect look at lost love; about as dark as it gets. Way She Smiles starts off like a teen ballad and then jettisons into a Velvet Underground feedback landscape. Sixties teen/punk disorientation of the highest order."

Born in 1922, Major Williams was later involved in the recordings of Lil Major Williams (aka Major Williams, Jr. born 1953, believed to be his son) - he co-wrote the songs - and was member of the Soul Crusaders :
- Palladium P-651 Lil Major Williams : "Girl (You're So Sweet, You're So Fine) / Girl Don't Leave Me "
- Williams III : Lil Major Williams - "Girl (You're So Sweet, You're So Fine) / Girl Don't Leave Me "

A Phelps production :
Norman, Willie and Earl Phelps grew up in the town of South Norfolk (now part of the City of Chesapeake) in the 1910s. The talented brothers were a natural combo, with bass singer Norman playing bass and guitar; baritone Willie on guitar, drums and washboard; and Earl, the youngest, singing sweet tenor and playing fiddle and mandolin.
The brothers made the rounds of local clubs and radio shows, where their beautiful harmony and playful style gained them a loyal following. In 1936 they tested their wings on the national circuit, traveling to New York City and then to Hollywood, where they appeared in 17 films released between 1937 and 1941 – including Painted Desert and Rawhide.
The Phelps returned to South Norfolk in 1940, where they continued to write music, record and perform. Norman and Willie served their country in the US Army and US Navy, respectively, during World War II, while Earl was excused for medical reasons and kept the band going at home. After the war, the three bought the old Norfolk County Club, renaming it Fernwood Farms. The club boasted the largest dance floor on the East Coast, with plenty of room for fans to swing out. The brothers frequently opened for out-of-town acts at the Norfolk Arena and hosted the performers at Fernwood Farms after the show.
The Phelps turned a portion of the club into a recording studio where they recorded not only their own group but other local groups as well. When Patsy Cline performed at Fernwood in the 1950s, she recorded several songs in the studio.

38619 ~ The Ballad Of Fancy Gap

The Ballad Of Fancy Gap (part)
"They call that killer mountain, Old Fancy Gap." Jim [James Marshall, born 1930] was a trucker at the time he wrote about the perilous route down old US 52 that was especially dangerous for truckers. The road claimed many a life back in the days before I-77 opened. Even I-77 has multiple escape routes for truckers whose brakes can't withstand the trip down the mountain. You can see the gravel paths cut up the side of the steepest points ... escape roads going to nowhere ... but saving many a trucker's life. They had them on the old road, too, but the hairpin turns caused too many truckers to plunge over the side of the mountain like Toonces the cat on SNL." [from Where the Orange Blossoms Grow, Lissie's blog]The Digital Library of Appalachia has about twenty audio files of Jim Marshall singing and talking about his songwriting while on the road. Files can be found HERE.

Though never considered a major star, Smilin' Jim Eanes was an influential figure in both bluegrass and country music for over five decades. He was born Homer Robert Eanes, Jr. in Mountain Valley, Virginia and received his first guitar at age nine from his banjo-picking father. While young, Eanes suffered an injury to his left hand; despite the difficulty and pain, he still managed to master rhythm guitar. He spent his early teen years playing square dances with his father's informal string band, and at age 16 joined Roy Hall's Blue Ridge Entertainers at a Roanoke radio station, and remained with the band until Hall died in 1943. Following World War II, Eanes joined Uncle Joe and the Blue Mountain Boys. He also worked briefly with Bill Monroe in 1948. ...more
