Earl Taylor began playing professionally since 1953 around Baltimore, Maryland. Between 1955 and 1958 he played mandolin and sang tenor for Jimmy Martin, including recording "Hit Parade of Love" and other classics. During 1965 he performed with Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs on both Harmonica and mandolin and has been associated with most of the finest bluegrass musicians at one time or another. In 1959 Earl and his boys became the first bluegrass band to play at Carnegie Hall, in a concert presented by Alan Lomax.

Wayne Parks, son of Rev. Al Parks, was born in Roanoke, Virginia. He grew up under the training of a classic Pentecostal background, and was taught the ways of God from a young child. He was born again at a young age.

As a teenager, he began going with his father in evangelistic ministry. In his mid-teens, Wayne Parks began his own ministry. Eventually, he came under the mentoring of anointed revivalist and tent evangelist A. A. Allen.

Throughout his twenties he maintained a traveling itinerary of tent revivals, ministering healing, miracles, and hard hitting preaching to multitudes over the years, with tremendous success by the power of the Holy Ghost.

In 1979, at 31 years of age, under the specific direction of the Holy Ghost, Wayne Parks moved his ministry headquarters to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and opened Full Gospel Church of the Living God; and continues the pastoral work there.

According to the booklet of the Ace CD Red River Blues - Ram Records compilation :

15 year old June ‘Bug’Bailey was the daughter of a woman who worked at the Pioneer Barbecue joint two doors from the Ram Studio in Greenwood Road, which Mira Smith opened in 1961. June’s mother had told Mira that her daughter could sing and when a black song writer, Joe Lewis from Alexandria brought Mira some songs, she decided to try recording one with the youngster. ‘Lee Street blues ‘, a song about a wine-head was released on Mira’s Jo Records in 196 with ‘Louisiana Twist’ on the other side.

'Louisiana Twist' is in the BMI online database but credited to Joe Louis (not Joe Lewis) and it's his only song listed.

Certainly a Rite pressing, judging from the pieces of label pictures found at the back of the booklet.

As it turns out, that was a stock cover from Rite Records. I chose it because it seemed like a Yes or Led Zeppelin kind of look. [...] The Dayspring record was a home-grown affair - the entire recording budget was $315. The typesetting on the back was donated, the record label was hand drawn. I was 18 yrs old, with no money and no job - but a big desire to praise the Lord. I still think we made a good choice - the cover still looks cool - at least we don't have any printing on the front! :-)

It should be obvious from listening to loud psychy rockin’ cuts like ‘Joy Comes In The Morning’ and ‘Eyes Of The Lord’ that this Ohioan had access to a Glass Harp album or two. Good job in the production yet holds to a totally homemade and primitive sound with jammin’ acoustic bluesy folkrocking maneuvers in the league of Randy Matthews, Ron Moore, and Mike Johnson, sometimes choosing to handle all instruments (guitar, bass, piano, percussion) himself like on the magical ‘I Was In The Spirit’. ‘Rock Of Ages’ boasts a crude electric blues riff with raw basement vibe and lengthy leads. Closes with a raucous, hand-clappin’, buncha-folks-havin’-a-party version of ‘Down By The Riverside’. Unreal cover art depicting mountainous landscape with orange sky and giant green sun. 1000 made. "Big Beat" was first compîled by Cees Klop [White Label LP "Moonlight Rock", 1989] and more recently Buffalo Bop compilation "Hep Cat Rockabilly" re-issued the tune (audio file and picture are taken from the latter).

I'm sorry to say that I've found absolutely no information neither on Norm Seachrist, nor on the label. The flip title is also missing, and indeed the Rite number is unreadable!

" This record is the culmination of many years of the Lord’s leading and preparation which began when as teenagers Donna and Bob individually gave their lives to Jesus Christ. Later they were brought together when Donna was camp nurse and Bob was camp counselor at Worralis Christian Life Camp.

After their maririage they enjoyed singing, so it was only natural that their daughters, Becky and Beth, learned to sing and enjoy music at an early age. The first family singing sessions were in the car during various vacation trips.

Now as teenagers, Becky and Beth have also given their lives to Christ and joined theiur parents in using their talents for His service.

As the Cavenee’s sing, « Jesus is The Answer For The World Today » they know by experience the truth of the song. He has been the answer to the searchings and the problems of their lives individually. Jesus has been the bridge between the generation gap faced by every family. He has continually been making » Something beautiful » of their lives.

Their prayer is to be faithful to the Lord ‘s leading and that this record will bless and challenge the hearts of all those who listen to claim Christ as Lord of their lives. "

"Let It Rock" is a primitive cover of the Chuck Berry tune.

Recently on e-bay. I wasn't able to obtain details from the seller, but despite the poor picture offered, I am pretty confident that this is a Rite pressing. The record is listed in the Rockin' Country Style, also without details, no matrix, no picture, no address.

Almsot certainly a Kentucky label owned by Wm. Stamper himself who released at least two other singles :

There was a single on REM Records credited to Bill Stamper, but it's not him :

Rusty York remembers going to King to record his swampy version of Jimmy Reed’s 1960 blues hit, " Baby What You Want Me To Do ", and a rocked-up version of " Molly Darlin’ ", a Victorian-era ballad writen by Will Hays that became a hit for Eddy Arnold in 1948. Rusty, though, didn’t have the money to put it out, so he took it to Bob Mooney at Rem Records in Lexington, Kentucky. […] Mooney said he had a guy under contract, Bill Stamper, who couldn’t sing very well, and he issued the single under Stamper’s name.

The Calvary Tones was organized in 1967.

Arthur Hobbs, born in Beauty, Kentucky, came to Ohio seeking employment. He didn’t only find a job he also found a church and one night in a glorious service he gave his heart to Christ. And since that time he was worked hard for the Lord. He sings lead and plays the guitar for the quartet.

Janet Hobbs, born in Inez, Kentucky, sings tenor.

Barbara Farmer, born in Beauty, Kentucky is a sister to Arthur Hobbs. Barbara came to Ohio, and later met Cecil Farmer in church, and they soon became husband and wife. Barbara sings alto.

Gerald Kelley, born in Quinwood, West Virginia, came to Ohio in 1955. He has pastored the Liberty Baptist Church in Barberton, Ohio for the past 6 years, where the quartet are all members. Gerald sings bass.

Kevin Hobbs, the son of Arthur and Janet Hobbs, is nine years old and is playing the bass guitar.
